Headteacher's Welcome

thumbnail_IMG_5689_edited.jpg

As Executive Headteacher of Afon y Felin Primary School and Corneli Primary School I feel extremely honoured and privileged to have the opportunity to build upon what the schools have achieved.

Afon Y Felin Primary School was opened in 1977 to serve the area which now included the Marlas estate in North Cornelly. The school is just off Junction 37. The school has extensive grounds, including a rugby field, environmental area, trim trail, multi-surface court, an outdoor learning space in our 'Castle' and an orchard at the rear of the school grounds. There is ample parking with established gardens and a large playing area.

I have been the Headteacher at Afon - y- Felin for nearly 10 years and prior to this I was Deputy Headteacher at Mynydd Cynffig Infants. I also worked as the Foundation Phase Advisor for Bridgend LA for 3 years.

I am pleased to announce that Mrs Denise Jones will be Head of School for Afon- y - Felin and with the support of the school team we are excited about the journey ahead towards the opening of the new school for this community.

We are a mainstream primary school and have a commitment to inclusive education and strive to maintain a high quality teaching and learning environment for all children.

There are currently 141 pupils on role who are educated in 6 classes. Situated behind the school there is a Flying Start building which provides pre school learning and care for children 0-3 years.

At Afon y Felin we have a hugely committed team to ensure that effective teaching and learning will continue for your children. The needs of the children are always paramount in the life and decision making within a school. It is our role to ensure that they are provided with exciting, innovative, creative and meaningful learning experiences through the development of the four core purposes within the new curriculum.

I am keen on building the school community which thrives on mutual respect and values positive relationships. I feel it’s important that you feel that you have a voice in your son/ daughters education so your ideas/ opinions will always be received positively.

You can be assured that as Executive Headteacher , I will strive to create the best education for your child/children.

There will be days when you do not see me as I will be basing myself equally across the two schools each week. If you do have any queries please direct them to Mrs Denise Jones who will be managing the day to day running of the school.

Kind regards

Ms Nicola Williams
