Welcome to the Little Acorns

Hello, I am Miss Jones and I am the class teacher in Mes Bach!

We have loads of exciting and fun things planned over the next year!

Welcome to all our new starters, it can be a daunting time beginning school for the very first time, just know that your children are in excellent hands. Myself, Mrs Jones and Miss Davies are here to help your children grow and develop their skills in creative and interesting ways.

Over the year we will have a number of topics which will inspire your children to learn about the world, their locality, themselves, plants, animals and different cultures.

In Little Acorns we love to keep active and learning so we go outside a lot! Even when it’s drizzling sometimes! Please can you make sure your child always has a coat in school everyday. We also take part in Forest School on Wednesdays so if you can bring in some wellies for your child that would be much appreciated. We have some wet weather gear available in school for wetter days.

As we are the youngest children in school we often get a little messy, we are always so busy painting, sticking, cutting and playing! Please make sure you label your child’s clothes with their name or initials to help us find their cardigans and jumpers. Sometimes we get a little messy but it’s because we are having so much fun learning new things!

Being the youngest children, there can sometimes be the odd toilet accident. If you would like to leave a spare set of clothes in your child’s bag we will use these when changing them. Always check their bags at the end of the day as we will place wet or dirty clothes back in their bag wrapped in nappy sacks. We will always endeavour to tell you of any little accidents that your child may have throughout the day.

P.E. will be on Wednesday. To begin with we will only be taking shoes, socks and jumpers off so there is no need to provide kit at this time. Again please ensure you label jumpers and cardigans. It has been known for shoes to also be mixed up! If you can add your child’s initial into their shoes that would be much appreciated!

Fruit is available for children to eat at break time, this is 20p a day or you can pay weekly on a Monday. Please can you send money in a sealed envelope marked with your child’s name.

All Reception children will receive a book at the beginning of the year, please read these at home with your child and comment in their reading record. Sometimes children in Nursery are ready for books and these will be given out when appropriate.

Even at this young age it is vital to place an importance on reading with your child. If your child does not have a reading book yet, sharing stories with a grown up is a great start. We will be starting up a lending library one afternoon a week for you to come and share some books with your child. If you would like any support on how best to support your child in their reading development please come and see me.
We read so many stories and take part in lots of reading activities with your child that we may only read their home book once a week. That is why it is so important for you to read this book at home.

Lost books are charged at £2 a book. Lost green book bags will not be replaced and you may be charged, so please keep these safe!

As we are so busy playing and learning in class and in the outside we can sometimes have little accidents. Please ensure your contact details are up to date in the office so we can always contact you if need be. You will be contacted if your child bumps their head.

Welsh has become a very important part of the curriculum. Research and studies have shown that the younger children hear and take part in a second language the more they will be able to use it. We speak lots of Welsh in Mes Bach, if you would like any assistance with this please let us know. Your child may come home and speak little bits of Welsh, which should be encouraged! There are many educational benefits to speaking more than one language!

I am looking forward to a busy year with my new class! If you ever have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to make an appointment to see me. I can always be found tidying up in class at the end of the day!
