Croeso i dosbarth Bedw
Welcome to Birch
This year is extremely exciting for dosbarth Bedw. We will be learning about everything from ‘castles and dragons’ to ‘flight engineers.’ We will be looking at different foods in ‘Global Gourmet’ and discovering the world around us in our topic ‘travel agents’ We shall also be covering the themes ‘999 emergency’ and ‘Dream for a Druid’.
Our class topic this term is ‘Castles and dragons’. This is an exciting topic and your child will cover a range of subjects across the curriculum. Our literacy focus this term is poetry writing and explanation writing. In history sessions, we are looking into the past and discovering the architecture of the castles through different periods of time.
In maths this year, we will be revisiting skills learnt in year two with the addition of new skills specific to year 3. We will be learning our 3 and 4 times tables, finding out about fractions, learning to tell the time and discovering area. Abacus Active Learn is a fun and interactive way for your child to develop the skills learnt in school at home. Your child has their own personalised login so that they can access the programme at home.
Weekly spelling lists will be given out and will need to be taken home to learn. Please encourage your child to practise their spellings regularly, ready for their test on a Friday. Learning their spellings will help to embed their reading and writing skills.
Reading should take place every day both in the home and in school. Please can you listen to your child read and encourage your child to engage in discussion about their book. Please use their reading record as a means of communication to let us know how your child is getting on with their book. Please can you also ensure your child has their reading book/record in school every day.
The children will be taking part in dance workshops which will be on a Monday and PE will be on a Thursday. Kits will be required on both days. And therefore it is advised kits remain in school for the week.
If you have any questions, please feel free to see me at the end of the school day or make an appointment with the office. I will be more than happy to discuss any queries you may have and I look forward to meeting you over the coming weeks.
